Project made when I was in apparati effimeri
CLIENT: Marca Corona 1741 ( www.marcacorona.it )
LOCATION: Palazzo Ducale, Sassuolo (MO)
This project was created to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Marca Corona, a well known producer of ceramics, very famous in the region, and the opening of their new museum. The location chosen for this event is the magnificent Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo, from the 17th century, the official summer residence of the Duke of D’Este family; this choice was made also because the palace was recently restored thanks to supporting contributions from Marca Corona themselves.
The focus of the project was to emphasize the beauty of the past splendour of the palace by literally recreating the richly colorful frescos which used to cover the entire inner courtyard.
We played by alternating them with the geometry of the patterns (ancient and modern) of the tiles produced by Marca Corona.
We realized this work also by keeping a focus on “Quadraturism”, an ancient decorative technique in between painting and architecture, very often employed by artists of the time and used for the interiors of this palace. Thanks to some peculiar decorative appliances, they used to deploy artificial structures in perspective in order to modify the actual physical environment; this had the effect to trick the eyes of the beholders, giving them the illusion of seeing through the walls, multiplying the spaces.
